— RockNRolla – The Movie

Posted in Movie Review on November 7th, 2009 by – 1 Comment

You know what.  By this time its more than a year old but I’m gonna review it in an rocknrollaattempt to you people out to see it again.  What am I speaking of?  The movie Rocknrolla!  It will no doubt grow into cult classic. This is an all star cast.  Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, and my favorite, Thandie Newton are all in there (Respect for not naming the others).

The movie follows a band of small time crooks as they strive to climb the ladder into the big time.  They end up being taken by a crooked loan shark, leading them into a debt that must be paid back.  This causes them to commit a couple of robberies to make money back.  A Russian Billionaire is pitted against the loan shark and the movie is Off.  I cannot do justice to this movie.  You have to see it for yourself (especially if you liked Snatch, with Brad Pitt).

THE BEST SCENE: When one of the main characters finds himself running from a couple of Russian gangster / war criminal / torturers.  Not only do they crash a truck into them, shoot them, beat them, and try to drive away from them.  This chase ends up with one of characters running down some train tracks to get away.  I would feel bad for ruining it for you so I won’t.  You have to go see it for yourself.

THE BEST LINE: ” ‘Oi Jackie, You fancy a runaround with a Councillor?”    Jackie replies: “Only if he’s wicked! “  I love that line.

It is a true Guy Ritchie movie.  Plenty of twists and turns, lots of violence, and superb cinematography.  Whoever is the editor of this move should write a damned book.  It is cut together in a way that tells the story so perfectly.  If you are one of those that think the art of Acting is so far superior to film making, this movie is one of those that proves that a good acting and script turn into a spectacular film with editing.  On the flip side, think of all the good actors that have made flop movies due to poor film making.

It is a Ironic that I hated the director Guy Ritchie when he was with Madonna’s crazy ass but now I see the genius in his style.  And since I keep finding myself watching his movies over and over again.  The only movie I’ve seen in the theater was RocknRolla and I knew I’d end up buying it.  That means that to me, there is value in it.

You should definitely go see this movie and if you have my jacked up sense of humor and creativity; Just go ahead and buy it, you won’t regret it.  And you might as well buy Snatch also since you’re there.
