— Formula One – 2009 – Grand Prix Of Abu Dhabi
Here we are at Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. This brand new track is called Yas Marina Circuit. It is the most
extravagant and expensive racing facility ever built (at one time). The track is surrounded by super yacht berths, brand new facilities, and of course, Ferrari Land. Ferrari Land is the largest indoor theme park on the planet. Still shiny and new, no one knows the track that well since it is so brand spanking new.
The Race starts on the grid with:
1st) Lewis Hamilton – McLaren Mercedes
2nd) Sebastian Vettel – Red Bull Renault
3rd) Mark Webber – Red Bull
As the race starts and finish off the first couple of laps you can see the limitations of the track as the cars slide around and drift through the turns. Aerodynamics and car setup must be tricky on this track. Not only does it have some tight turns, but it also has the longest straight in F1 where the cars are able to get up to 200 plus miles per hour.
Hamilton went out with brake issues around lap 36 opening up the Constructors Championship between Ferrari and McLaren. Its up to Raikkonen vs. Kovaleinen.
With 31 Laps left, the lights on the track come on as the sun goes down. The Buildings look amazing. Its amazing what money can buy… And Abu Dhabi has all the money one could require.
My story for this race is Kamui Kobiyashi. He is a brilliant driver and has made some downright amazing passes in this race. He has the tenacity of a young driver but also the judgment of a more experienced driver. He’s pretty impressive actually and this is the second time I’ve spoken of him in as many races. Oh Yea! And this is his second out for Toyota.
This inaugural Abu Dhabi race was pretty standard by-and-by. The race definitely had the hallmark of other races on
dedicated tracks. No real inconsistencies in a real controlled environment. The race planners ensured nothing random happened. This race didn’t even have any accidents (which is good). The race was so standard that I might even say that… it was kinda boring really (for a Formula One Race). I still enjoyed it though. And now, I have a new destination to get to for a race and it is Abu Dhabi.
The Race Ends With:
1st) Sebastian Vettel – Red Bull Renault (Second in the Drivers Championship)
2nd) Mark Webber – Red Bull Renault
3rd) Jensen Button – Brawn GP
This was the final race of this season in Formula One 2009. I am kinda bummed that this season is over… but I cannot wait for the next season to start. I pledge to get to a race this next season. I’m thinking Malaysia.
See you in a few months fellow Formula One Fans (That happened to find this page).
